How Often Should I Service My Heating & Cooling System?

|

A heating or cooling system can seem perfectly fine right up until it’s pushed hardest — the first scorching week of July or the coldest snap of February. That’s exactly when deferred maintenance shows up, and exactly when you can least afford a breakdown.

We recommend a twice-yearly maintenance schedule: one visit in spring to prepare your air conditioner before cooling season, and one in fall to get your furnace ready before the heat comes on.

Hear our team explain what each visit includes.

How Often Should You Service Your Heating and Cooling System?

Twice a year — once in spring, once in fall. Each appointment targets a different part of your system and gets it ready for the season ahead, so we’re catching problems before your air conditioner or furnace is working at full load.

What Happens During Spring Air Conditioner Maintenance?

During a spring visit, we clean the central air conditioning system and inspect its electrical components and refrigerant charge. Scheduling this before summer means we’re assessing the equipment while there’s still time to address anything we find.

As our team puts it, “We want to do it right before the summer season.” Catching a refrigerant issue or a failing component in May is a minor inconvenience. Catching it during a heat wave is an emergency.

What Happens During Fall Furnace Maintenance?

During a fall visit, we clean the furnace, replace the filter, and inspect the electrical components. We also check for carbon monoxide and potential gas leaks — a step that’s about safety as much as performance.

The goal is to have your heating equipment ready before cold weather sets in. A furnace problem in the middle of a cold spell isn’t just uncomfortable — it can become urgent fast. Getting ahead of it in October means you’re not scrambling in January.
